About Me
I have a lot of professional and experiential learning. I began volunteering with the Columbus AIDS Task Force in Columbus, OH at the age of 18, my first glimpse into the social services. From there, I became a Sexual Assault Response Network (SARN) Advocate and participated in spring break trips to provide disaster relief aid to Hurricane Katrina survivors. In the summers, I worked as a camp counselor at a residential camp for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, double majoring in Psychology and Women's & Gender Studies.
Post undergrad, I participated in a 2 year Americorps program with Covenant House, serving homeless young adults ages 18-22 in residential facilities in Atlantic City, NJ and Detroit, MI. I stayed with the agency another 2 years thereafter, serving as a case manager and then program manager.
From 2012-2018 I served in multiple capacities at Development Centers, a Detroit-based community mental health agency. I gleaned extensive experience in case management, psychiatric hospitalizations, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), community outreach and therapy. During this time, I completed my Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from Wayne State University, focusing on family systems. Recognizing that many individuals I served had co-occurring disorders, in order to best assist my clients, I became a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) in the state of Michigan.
Since the summer of 2018, I have been engaged in private practice therapy and have been a full-time clinical therapist at Corktown Health Center, Michigan's first LGBTQ medical home, where I see a diverse set of clients, many of whom identify as LGBTQ, are living HIV, or are exploring their gender identity. I have presented at local and national conferences on trauma, LGBTQ identity, reconciling faith and sexuality, and on HIV/STI's. I am also a certified spin instructor and teach a weekly class at a local gym and believe in the mind/body connection.
