About Me
Dr. Levitt has more than 40 years’ experience in working with clients who suffer from self-harm, eating disorders and symptoms related to histories of trauma and abuse; he has also been instrumental in developing practice-based models of treatment for those populations. He has taught classes on Psychological and Emotional Trauma at the graduate level and consults with other clinicians on clinical treatment challenges. He has been an active participant in the fields of eating disorders, family therapy, self-harm and trauma as a clinician, consultant, program developer, supervisor/trainer, and presenter. Dr. Levitt has been Clinical Director of more than five treatment programs and has worked in hospital-based programs and private practice. He has taught widely, co-authored one book, co-edited three other books, and has over eighty articles and publications. Dr. Levitt has emphasized the importance of "giving back" to the community and has provided over 200 pro bono workshops. He is noted for his exciting and useful trainings and publications on how to successfully facilitate client change using the therapeutic relationship -- for even the most symptomatically challenging client. Dr. Levitt currently maintains a private practice in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago.
