About Me
My career as a therapist began in the early 1970's as I spent four summers as a wilderness counselor for teens in Vermont, as I worked on my BA in Psychology. It continued as I worked with troubled adolescents in institutional settings, including inner city Detroit. After my Masters in Social Work, I had excellent training at the Huron Valley Child Guidance Clinic for 7 years in traditional therapy. From there, I went to the public schools in Monroe, Michigan area for 25 years, working with the most difficult students.
During that time, I attended trainings in CBT, DBT, Bioenergetics, Myer-Briggs Analysis, Berglerian Analysis of self-defeating thought patterns, guided visualization, and shamanic study of what I call "ancient cultural wisdom" from the Twisted Hair warrior's tradition of Turtle Island. I also published, A CIRCLE OF STONES, about Great Lakes tribal culture, with the help of various elders.
In 2010, I began contractual work for a large non-profit clinic in Ann Arbor, where I began working more exclusively with adult clients. In 2017 I established my private practice, Apple Blossom Holistic Therapy, PLLC. I use a variety of modalities, based on the premise that our mind-body-emotion-spirit aspects of being human are all interconnected. Some of my clients prefer a more traditional approach, while others are excited to explore alternatives. While I am caucasian, I have the support of elders, as a Sacred Pipe Carrier and ceremonialist (for which I underwent 30 years of training and intense testing), to give Wheel of Life teachings and simple ceremonies to enhance self-awareness, and internal balance for self-healing.
From a shamanic perspective, I look at client issues as being evidence of a disharmony caused by a combination of things inside, and things outside of them.
In this sense, people are people, not a diagnosis. I endeavor to facilitate a discovery of the irony--there is always an irony--that has led to the misunderstanding of the wonder of who they truly are. BCBS, BCN, Medicare accepted. I am using telehealth for sessions in this time of Covid-19.
