About Me
I am a Virginia licensed professional counselor (LPC) specializing in helping clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression and maternal and paternal mental health issues. I also work with individuals who are navigating life transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss, and other life stressors.
Areas I support clients with are parenthood, work challenges, recent breakups, pregnancy anxiety, postpartum depression, and issues around alcohol. For the later, I lead a small therapeutic book club, Rethinking Your Drinking, designed for women interested in enhancing their wellness in a thoughtful, supportive and positive environment. You might call it the ultimate “Sober Book Club”.
In treating adults with anxiety and depression I most often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). For clients experiencing pregnancy or postpartum anxiety or depression, I employ special training from Postpartum Support International (PSI) and Postpartum Support Virginia (PSVa), for whom I am a Preferred Provider and a former group co-lead at Virginia Hospital Center.
I am a Washingtonian, wife, and mom. My two teenagers are active in sports and have attended public, independent and boarding schools, so I am very familiar with the advantages and challenges of family life in our area. My five decades in the region enable me to call on many experiences and resources for clients.
Prior to pursuing my lifelong interest in counseling I was a stay-at-home mom in Arlington and wrote for government relations and contracting companies. I played tennis at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. When not at Sunstone, the tennis court is often where you can find me. There, or walking my dogs Snickers and Goldie.
I obtained my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University, where I joined Chi Sigma Iota, the honor society for the counseling profession. In addition to PSVa and PSI, I am an active member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and Northern Virginia Licensed Professional Counselors (NVLPC).
