About Me
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in San Antonio, Texas. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2004, my Masters of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue University Calumet in 2009, and my Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch University New England in 2013.
In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, I have published and presented on topics related to parenting, identity, feminist theory, and positive psychology. A thread of my contributions is wanting to respectively support clients in navigating life challenges in new ways, unique to them and their life experiences. I work with and affirm clients of all backgrounds.
For over 15 years I have worked in variety of clinical settings with individuals (teen and adult), couples, and families, and I strongly believe in the power of connection to facilitate change. I have a passion for supporting clients reconnect and regain a sense of self after (and between)navigating life transitions-- changes in relationship, job/school/career, identity, parenthood, life events and stages. My approach is one that is respectful, compassionate, and collaborative, and balanced with an active role in providing support, practical feedback, and using evidence-based interventions. I promote acceptance in coming as you are and taking what you need most from the time we share. Therapy is an investment of your time, energy, emotion, and money-- I want it to be helpful for you!
Beyond the therapy room-- I enjoy being behind the camera, spending time with my husband and two young children, creating and painting, and appreciating nature-- all experiences which I believe foster creativity and appreciation for multiple perspectives in the therapy room. I invite you to reach out or explore my personal website ( mcvickertherapy.weebly.com ) to learn a bit more about my style and experience, and to see if I could be a fit for what you're needing. Real change is possible. Healthy, loving relationships are possible. A more confident, skilled, resilient you is possible. I would be honored to be part of your therapeutic journey.
