Annette Shimkus

My career in Social Work began in home health care and psychiatric hospital settings. Both of those experiences gave me a good start in understanding the challenges that people face throughout their lives in dealing with health and mental health concerns and the impact each has on the other. I have worked as an outpatient therapist since 1986 in an agency setting and am currently in private practice. My areas of expertise include substance abuse and addiction, Critical Incident management, as well as depression and, anxiety. My experiences have included many teachable moments, not only for my clients, but from them as well. The effectiveness of the dynamics in therapeutic relationships and the ability to assist people in moving forward in healthier ways has given me a rewarding career that I continue to enjoy.
