James Staunton

I provide a safe place to unload and work on a new understanding. We will work collaboratively to understand the underlying issues often hidden from ourselves, that keep you stuck in unhealthy patterns. My approach is respectful, caring, and supportive.

I've been local to San Diego for over 30 years, but originally come from the Midwest. Before becoming a therapist, I had a very different career as a professional illustrator, which may be why I appreciate the art of practicing psychotherapy.  I enjoy working with a variety of people and especially like in-depth work.

I earned my undergraduate degree  from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. and a Masters from National University in Counseling Psychology (2000).

I was also chosen to participate in the two-year Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program at the San Diego Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (SDPSI). This is traditionally a post-Doctoral program which goes in-depth into the specific technique of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
