About Me
I have 13 years’ experience in social services, including 7 years engaged in adolescent, adult, couples and family therapy. During that time, I’ve seen first-hand the impact depression, anxiety and trauma can have on child development, marriages, parenting and interpersonal skills in general. My approach to helping improve the connections in my clients’ lives starts with understanding their vulnerabilities in a safe, judgement-free environment. Then I implement a personalized, strengths-based solution that helps them achieve their therapy goals. I’m trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive, Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness. I am also especially passionate about using my training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to help my clients process traumatic experiences that lead to depression, anxiety and mood disorders.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Child, Adult and Family Services from Iowa State University, where I also worked as a milieu staff/therapist in a residential treatment facility. I have a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Iowa. During that time, I conducted in-home work for the Department of Human Services, where I gained an intimate knowledge of the child welfare system. I’m a licensed independent social worker (Iowa) and a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
I enjoy building therapeutic relationships with individuals, children, couples and families in a positive, compassionate environment. And I look forward to drawing on your inner strength to improve the connections in your life!
